Hamilton County Democratic Party reacts to President Trump’s response to Charlottesville attack
Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – Khristy Wilkinson, Chair of the Hamilton County Democratic Party released the following statement on President Trump’s response the Charlottesville, VA. rally, and Senator Corker’s subsequent comments:
“Democrats across Hamilton County are saddened and unnerved by the tragic events that took place in Charlottesville, VA. last weekend, and by President Trump’s inability or unwillingness to condemn the neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups who perpetrated these acts of terrorism. Our thoughts are with the victims of the violence and their families. It is difficult to accept the reality that comes with knowing that racial hatred exists in our country, and harder still to accept the loss of life.
The Hamilton County Democratic Party is an organization made up of a diverse group of Democrats, but we are united in our belief in the equality of all mankind. Racism, bigotry, white supremacy, and violence find no home here. We are glad that Senator Bob Corker is among those willing to speak out, and we call on every other elected official in Hamilton County to denounce President Trump’s response to these events. Both Republicans and Democrats have a duty to love in the face of hate, and to work to eliminate racism in Hamilton County and beyond.”
