Hamilton County Education Association Addresses Governor Haslam’s Proposal to get Teacher Raises

(WDEF) Some members of the Hamilton County Education Association are skeptical Governor Bill Haslam will make good on teacher pay raises.
Monday Governor Haslam gave his state of the state address.
He proposed a 4% pay raise for Tennessee teachers.
That hasn’t happened in about two years, according to the Hamilton County Education Association.
However — some say it’s needed now more than ever to attract and retain the best teachers.
Sandy Hughes serves as President for the Hamilton County Education Association.  She says, "I just hope this time he puts his money where his mouth is because a couple of years ago or last year he announced that teachers would get two percent and he did not keep that commitment."
Hughes also says the raise is needed because many educators are facing higher insurance expenses.
