Hamilton County home’s HVAC catches fire

An HVAC motor failure caused a fire in a Harrison, TN residence

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A man evacuated his home Tuesday morning after his HVAC air system caught on fire. The Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) reported heavy smoke coming from the home.

The fire was at a house on Davis Mill Road, near Highway 58.

The VFD said they found fire inside the heating and air vents. They turned off the home’s power, stopping the HVAC motor and the fire.

Fire officials said they extinguished multiple fires in the air ducts.

The homeowner told VFD that he smelled wires burning and heard crackling noises coming from his HVAC system. He told firefighters that he found fire in the air return vent.

The VFD said the man evacuated his home as soon as he found the fire.

The HVAC motor failed and started the fire in the heat and air duct system, fire officials determined.

The Highway 58 VFD said the fire was accidental. There were no injuries from the fire.

Fire officials said the only damage to the home is from smoke.

The Chattanooga Fire Department and Hamilton County EMS also responded for additional assistance.
