Hamilton County Schools closing Tuesday and Wednesday after Labor Day

Fighting Covid-19 within the school system

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn (WDEF) –Hamilton County schools announced Wednesday afternoon that all schools in the district will be closed on Tuesday, September 7th, and Wednesday, September 8th.

The Schools were already closed on Monday, September 6th for Labor Day.

Hamilton County schools will use two stockpile days as they would for inclement weather.

The school system says they hope that by extending this long weekend, any individual potentially exposed during the Labor Day weekend will be aware and monitor for symptoms, before returning to school.

“During the holiday weekend we encourage families to follow the same mitigation strategies that we are following in schools – attend events and gatherings outside rather than indoors, distance from others that don’t live in your household, wash your hands regularly, and continue to wear a mask. If you or your students don’t feel well stay at home,” says Elaine Harper, Community Superintendent  North River

Dr. Towns asks all parents to have their children tested before returning to school if they believe their child has been exposed to COVID-19 or is showing COVID-19 symptoms.
