Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to “Look Twice”
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Indian of Chattanooga and Erlanger to promote sharing the road and “Looking Twice” for motorcyclists.
Organizer Charlie Brown spoke at the event saying, “Even if you’ve been riding for 25 or 30 years and you’ve never taken a class. You take a class and then learn that there were some things you were doing wrong, then, you’ll learn how to do them right.”
Several vendors were at the event today after the sponsors addressed those who attended.
As it gets warmer, the Sheriff’s Office says it’s important to remind drivers that they will be sharing the road more often with motorcyclists.
Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond said, “On the other hand, not only do you have to watch out and know the rules of the road and safety and we want to tell the public that they need to look twice and know when a motorcycle is out there around them so that everybody is protected.”
According to the Tennessee Highway Safety Office, they worked almost 3-thousand crashes involving a motorcycle last year.
