Harlem Globetrotters honor local war veteran

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Harlem Globetrotters honored Sgt. Jason Smith at the YMCA Tuesday for his service to the country and the community.

Smith lost both his legs in an IED explosion while serving in Afghanistan. Now, he’s home and coaches teams for the YMCA’s Miracle League, a sports league for those physically or cognitively challenged.

The Globetrotters gave Smith an honorary jersey and a show at the YMCA, and Friday, he will launch the game’s opening tip in McKenzie Arena.
