Haus of Kennard celebrates Black excellence and resilience through dance

Keenan Kennard brings by one of his dance students to the News 12 studio on Juneteenth to share their inspiring story celebrating Black excellence and resilience.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – This Juneteenth, News 12 highlights the “Haus of Kennard” which is a local group that impacts our community’s youth through the art of dance.

Keenan Kennard has been coaching and mentoring young dancers in Chattanooga for over 11 years and launched his brand “Haus of Kennard” which is built on precision. He uses dance to teach structure and discipline and provide a creative outlet for Chattanooga’s youth.

His dance group focuses mainly on jazz, lyrical, majorette, and majorette hip-hop dance styles.

Through his work, he was able to send his talented dancers to dance lines at prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Watch the interview to hear from one of his former dancers as she talks about how dancing led her to Alcorn State University and dancing for the Braves basketball team.

Kennard has a documentary coming out on July 20 at the Rise Theater which focuses on the work he and his students do.
