Haynes said no decision made on property tax schedule
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Hamilton County Assessor of Property wanted to set the record straight on a reported change to the reappraisal schedule.
Currently, properties in Hamilton County are reappraised every four years.
Marty Haynes, the county’s property assessor, says he had alluded to considering to shorten that to reappraisals every two years.
However, he insisted that the report of a final decision on a two year schedule is incorrect, saying his office needs to consider a variety of factors before making a decision.
“That’s all I’m asking, take a deep breath. Folks are calling, it’s all over social media. I get that. I understand it. I didn’t respond to anything. I got a call from the TV stations, and from the papers, and hey, there’s not a plan! If I had a plan I would show it to you but I don’t have one, because we haven’t done it. We’ve looked at some preliminary work compared to other states,” said Marty Haynes, Hamilton County Assessor of Property.
Haynes says his office is focus on the 20-25 reappraisals before a plan on the schedule next Spring.
