Hazmat situation cleared at Chattanooga Walgreens

UPDATE:

The Chattanooga Fire Department explained that the hazmat situation was due to a container leaking hazardous material in the back of a FedEx truck. The truck was parked in front of the Walgreens.

Firefighters said the leak was a corrosive liquid.

CFD says this was just a minor hazmat incident because the leak was small. It did not cause a threat or impact the surrounding area.

A hazmat team contained the leak and an environmental company cleaned up the area.

EMS evaluated several firefighters as well due to high heat. The heat index was between 105 and 109 degrees, according to CFD.

The Chattanooga Fire Department provided an update to the hazmat situation.

All roads have reopened as of 3 p.m.

The fire department said a minor hazard has been mitigated.

However, CFD is still on scene awaiting an environmental cleanup company.

First responders are evaluating several firefighters due to the heat index being roughly 107 degrees, according to CFD.

Nobody was injured in regard to the hazardous situation.
