HCSO Deputies involved in early morning pursuit on Shallowford Road

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton County Sheriffs Office (HCSO) deputies were involved in a pursuit that ended off of Shallowford Road.

At 12:10 a.m. Sunday morning, HCSO deputies made an attempt to stop a vehicle near the 3700 block of South Terrace.

The vehicle didn’t stop and HSCO deputies initiated in a pursuit.

During the pursuit, the vehicle sideswiped another vehicle going the opposite direction on Shallowford Road.

Deputies then used a PIT maneuver, causing the car to crash.

Two passengers fled on foot, while the driver was arrested as he tried to exit the vehicle.

One passenger was apprehended and taken to the hospital, while the other passenger has yet to be found.

It was determined that the 2016 Black Hyundai Sonata was stolen, and deputies found 17.5 grams of marijuana and a 9 millimeter hand gun inside the vehicle.

The passenger, Marzjahn Rivers-Beach, was found with 27 grams of marijuana, 1 gram of fentanyl, and 3,800 dollars in his possession.

The driver, Ian Mathis, has a long list of charges.  They are as listed:

• Light Law Violation
• Traffic Control Device
• Driver to Exercise Due Care
• Failure to Maintain Lane
• Speeding
• Leaving the Scene of an Accident
• Felony Evading Arrest
• Reckless Driving
• Felony Reckless Endangerment
• Resisting Arrest
• Theft of Property
• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
• Driving on a Suspended License
• Active Session’s Court warrant for Custodial Interference
After being released from the hospital, Rivers-Beach was charged with the following:
• Possession of Marijuana
• Possession pf Fentanyl
• Evading Arrest
• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony

Rivers-Beach also had active session court warrants, they are as listed:

• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Drugs General Category for Resale (x2)
• Failure to Appear
• Tampering with or Fabricating Evidence
• Possessing a Firearm With Intent To Go Armed
• Theft of Property
