Hearing Set for Shooting Case

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Two Hamilton County deputies are on leave while the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation investigates a police shooting during a traffic stop.

Tadarius McDaniel, 23, faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, theft, and firearm-related charges.

According to the arrest report, deputies on foot stopped McDaniel after he was allegedly driving a stolen Hyundai Sonata. 

The deputies gave verbal commands, and the vehicle then allegedly accelerated toward them. 

The deputies fired, striking McDaniel.

McDaniel was transported to a hospital for treatment. 

A second person in the vehicle was questioned and released. 

The deputies involved were not injured.

McDaniel appeared in Judge Starnes’ courtroom today. 

His initial hearing was postponed to December 16. 

The deputies involved have not been publicly identified.
