Heat lamp for dogs starts a house fire near Soddy Daisy
SODDY DAISY, Tennessee (WDEF) – A Soddy Daisy family’s home goes up in flames early this morning.
The house was located in the 2000 block of Green Pond Road.
The Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department received a call from the homeowners at about 6 in the morning, with reports of a fire in the back porch area of the house.
The cause of the fire was due to a heat lamp that was used to keep the family’s dogs warm.
The house was fully engulfed when firefighters were finally able to get to it.
Hamilton County Public Information Officer Amy Maxwell told us “They requested a mutual aid response for additional man power and apparatus to assist this fire. Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department and also Mowbry Mountain Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. As you can see, this house sits about 600 feet off the road, and took them several minutes to put together 600 feet of hoseline in order to get water up to this house.”
The family of four and their three dogs were able to escape with no injuries.
Total damages amount to 375 thousand dollars worth, and the house is a total loss.
