Heating and air experts share heating tips during cold months
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF)- As cold temperatures drop.
Heating and air experts are making sure folks are aware of how to heat your home safely.
“If you are not taking care of the maintenance on these. It is very critical that these stay clean, and if they are clogged up or dirty, it can definitely reduce the efficiency of the heat pump,” said Kevin Bode with Bailey’s Heating and Air Company
According to News 12’s Chief Meteorologist Austen Onek, low temperatures are expected to reach mid to lower twenties.
Bode shares tips on how to maintain your heat source.
“If you do not have a gas furnace and you have just a heat pump for heat source, do not block any of these coils out here,” said Bode. “Make sure you have adequate air flow around them, because right now this is trying to heat your home. There is also another part inside the house that also works as well. So keep your filters clean.”
And With Cold Weather, The Chattanooga Fire Department also sees an influx of house fires.
Allen Green with the Chattanooga Fire Department explains how to properly use your heater at home.
“The National Fire Protection Agency recommends three feet, at least three feet that will give you a safe distance away from anything that can catch fire, your curtains, beds, covers, blankets, quilts, furniture, things like that. You want at least three feet,” said Green.
But no matter how you keep your house warm.
Green says it is vital that your home be safe.
“Turn your space heaters off before you go to bed, before you leave the room, turn them off. Make sure they have a tilting factor meaning if they tilt over that they will cut off, do they have a timer on them, so things like that is where we always suggest and recommend, you know, if you really really want to be safe, and on the preventative side of things,” Green concluded.
