Heritage RB Jeffrey Curtis Chasing School Milestone

Ringgold, GA-(WDEF-TV) Heritage has averaged over 50 points in their last two games thanks to a balanced, offensive attack. Jeffrey Curtis has provided the ground game punch, and the senior running back can reach a school milestone in the Generals regular season finale.

Jeffrey Curtis doesn’t look like any running back you’ve likely ever seen before.
Reporter:”I don’t know that I recall see many red-headed running backs.”
Said head coach E.K. Slaughter:”(chuckles) Right. Right.”
Reporter:”Is it a little unusual.”
Slaughter:”Yeah. Yeah. You don’t see too many of them.”
Said quarterback Nick Hanson:”I don’t think I’ve seen any around here with. (chuckles) A ginger running back.”
Said Curtis:”Being a red head really changes everything. Everybody looks at me different. So.”
Reporter:”Do they call you ‘Big Red’?
Curtis:”Big Red’ is actually my nickname.”
Nobody is laughing though when it comes to tackling Curtis.
Said Hanson:”He has always had huge thighs. I remember him back in middle school when I was in the sixth grade. He has always been really big.”
Said Slaughter:”He’s definitely a fast kid. He has had some really good times this summer too at some camp visits. He’s a 4.5 kid you know at 220 pounds.”
Said Curtis:”People ask me, especially all summer and everything. They’re like wow, you weigh 220? I’m like yeah. And they’re like what do you run? I’m like 4.56. And they are all just surprised. They’re like wow, that’s crazy. Nobody really runs that, especially around this area. It’s pretty surprising.”
Curtis needs just 8 yards rushing Friday to become the first player in school history to ever rush for a thousand yards in a season.
Said Curtis:”It’s actually a lot of pressure, but at the same time, it’s nothing new but to get up and have the expectation for greatness every day. That’s what I strive for.”
Curtis’ size and speed comes in handy at linebacker too.
Said Slaughter:”We want to give him as many touches as we can. You’ve got to have balance because he does play defense and special teams. He’s also a really good punter for us. So. Usually the way it works is just when he gets to come out, I just tell him, when you are ready, go back in. He goes back in, and we just roll.”
