Heritage Senior Emily Wiley Averaging a Double-Double This Season
Ringgold, GA-(WDEF-TV) Heritage guard Emily Wiley set a school record last Friday scoring 40-points against Northwest Whitfield. The Generals senior guard is having a banner season averaging 20-points and 10 boards a game.
Ask Heritage Eddie Bryant about Emily Wiley, and he could start a filibuster if he really wanted to.
Said Bryant:”Every Saturday night after our games or Friday night, I get a text saying hey, what time can you be at the gym on Sunday? So that’s been part of my week is Sunday afternoon gym visits. She’s just a complete player. Most of the time we put her on the best offensive player on the other team, so it’s not only about offense, she does a great job defensively. A lot of times in timeouts, we’ll go Emily, what do you think? Because she’s so smart as far as the X’s and O’s in basketball.”
And Wiley saw all of that hard work pay off last Friday night against Northwest Whitfield.
Game announcer:”Ladies and gentlemen. With that last basket Emily Wiley has surpassed Jada Hubbard to become the all time scoring leader for Heritage High School.” (cheers and applause)
Said Wiley:”When they said that, it kind of hit me. I was like whoa. That’s. That’s really happening right now. Happened kind of quick in my head. So it was really just a good time. It took me by surprise in the middle of like a really fun game.”
Wiley isn’t just a scoring machine either. She also fights for rebounds.
Said Wiley:”I’ve always know that I can rebound, so I like to try to get as many as I can.”
Reporter:”Walk out of your high school career as the leading scorer at your school and the leading rebounder. I mean that speaks volumes about the kind of player you are.”
Said Bryant:”Complete player. You know I’m probably going to shed a few tears.”
What coach wouldn’t cry when they’re going to lose a senior that’s averaging a double-double this year in points and rebounds.
Said Wiley:”Definitely the ultimate goal is to win another region championship. If we can get a state game in as a bonus, I would love that. I would love to make a run at state too.”
