High speed chase around LaFayette ends in crash and arrest

LAFAYETTE, Georgia (WDEF) – A chase in northwest Georgia on Tuesday resulted in a couple of wrecks.

The Georgia State Patrol says it started when a trooper spotted a Ford F-150 driving recklessly.

He clocked it going 86 mph in a 35 zone and passing vehicles in a no passing zone.

The chase went through LaFayette, onto Highway 193 and then Highway 136.

A state trooper crashed on Dripping Springs Road.

The chase ended when the fleeing vehicle hit another vehicle near the Walmart on Highway 27.

The driver then ran on foot, but was chased down.

20 year old Blake Smith faces DUI and several driving offenses.

He did not have a drivers license, but he did have several other warrants out for him.

Both the trooper and the citizen that Smith hit were not hurt.
