Hiker rescued sustained a traumatic injury on the Cumberland Trail

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Saturday evening, Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management (HCOEM) agencies respond to another hiking accident at 6:00 p.m. on Cumberland Trail.

According to HCOEM, a group of hikers called 9-1-1 reporting another hiker had sustained a traumatic injury to his ankle, reporting that a large rock had fallen and crushed it.

They told rescue personnel the injured party needed help getting out of the woods.

Signal Mountain Fire and Walden’s Ridge Emergency Service (WRES) responded to 22 Signal Point Circle and started entering the Cumberland Trail at 6:15 pm.

After hiking steep and rocky terrain rescue personnel made contact with the injured hiker at 7:30 pm.

The hiker’s injuries were too severe to carry him out of the woods, so he was hoisted up on a helicopter from the National Guard transported him to Erlanger.
