CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Tivoli Theatre has broken down the walls and has begun their reconstruction, while keeping audiences entertained during the wait with the most popular Broadway musicals coming to Chattanooga.
The Tivoli Theatre Foundation recently started the $73 million renovation of the Tivoli Theatre and the creation of the Tivoli Performing Arts Center. In December, the foundation held a “wall breaking” when they finally tore down the walls to begin their expansion into the neighboring building.
Nick Wilkinson, Tivoli Theatre Foundation CEO, says, “We really want to be the home for the performing arts in our community…We really want to make sure that the Tivoli, which is known as the Jewel of the South, is fully restored and is around for another 100 years.”
While the anticipation begins for the restoration completion, audiences can attend shows at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium and The Walker Theatre. Currently, the foundation is on a roll with their Broadway line up which features a popular, award winning Broadway musicals every month through July.
Six, Hadestown, Hamilton, and Les Misérables are the next four heart-stopping musicals coming to the Memorial Auditorium. You can be in “The Room Where it Happened” when Hamilton rides into town, as it is one of the biggest shows the Tivoli Theatre Foundation has offered, with 16 shows running from April to May.
