Hixson Will Try to Continue Playoff Run This Season

A soggy, wet field has postponed Hixson’s season opener at Marion County until Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats are coming off back-to-back nine win seasons, and they’re hungry for more as they enter a new region this fall.

After five consecutive seasons with a losing record, Hixson has turned it around, earning a playoff spot the last three years.
Said head coach Dan Duff,"They know what has been done before them. They want to continue that. That’s always hard to get going in the school. And so once you’ve got it going, you really want that to continue."
Said quarterback Justin Nicholson,"I feel like we are now starting to get more respected around this area. I don’t think it has been like that for the last maybe about three or four years. But now I feel like we deserve everybody’s respect."
Coach Duff believes this year’s team will be solid in the area that counts most.
"We’ve got some good size on the team and some talent. Our strength is in our interior linemen. We’ve got some pretty good players there."
Added linebacker Elijah White,"Biggest lineman? Brody Gregory. That’s the biggest. Biggest and strongest." Reporter-"How big is he?"
Chuckles White, "Hulk big."
Quarterbacks love to hear of linemen that are "Hulk big."
Said Nicholson,"We’ve got some big guys to follow behind. I can tell you that."
Said Duff,"We’re going to play two quarterbacks. That’s good. Both of those kids have to play both ways, so it’s going to help with getting them rest and those type things."
Hixson joins a new region with several out-of-town teams that can make scheduling tricky.
Said Duff,"I like to play rivalries. We kept the Soddy Daisy game, but we weren’t able to keep the Red Bank game. I do like high school rivalries. I don’t ever want to get away from that."
