Holiday Child Abuse

The holiday season is supposed to be a time for happiness and peace for many families and friends.

But for some children, it can bring pain and sorrow.

Specialists at T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital at Erlanger are treating about two children every week from injuries they receive during violent acts of abuse.

From January to October, the children’s E-R reported 104 cases.

Medical specialists say signs of abuse can be physical, sexual, or neglect.

"In other situations, you may have the impulse control not to injure those children, that you essentially don’t have that control because there’s just too many stressers on your life right now and you wind up basically taking it out on the child," says Dr. Annamaria Church.

To report child abuse, call the Tennessee hotline at 1-800-356-6767.
