Holiday Safety Should Be A Priority
Especially When Cooking
CHATTANOOGA, TN – (WDEF) – With the holiday season now here, many of us will be in the kitchen, cooking up a “feast” for the family.
Fire Departments and Fire Marshals are urging everybody to make SAFETY one of your top priorities.
Especially when cooking that Thanksgiving turkey. Whether it be in the oven or in a deep fryer.
Keep in mind that cooking fires are the number one cause of a fire in your home.
In the year 2020, 13 people in Tennessee alone were killed because of a fire involving cooking equipment.
Hamilton County Fire Marshal Mike Brooks says while cooking, pay attention, watch your kids and pets….and have a fire extinguisher close at hand.
“We just want you to really really do this, because we want you to have a great Thanksgiving, a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. We don’t want to have to come visit you. We hope we don’t have to see you. Because I know you don’t want to see us because of a kitchen fire.”
Mike Brooks says if you’re deep frying a turkey, be EXTRA careful. Put in the right amount of oil. And make sure your fryer is on solid ground. Because very bad things can happen if you’re not doing things the right way.
