How Low Will Gas Prices Go This Fall?
And the outlook is even lower.
The price of oil hit its lowest closing price since the "Great Recession" in 2009, continuing its longest weekly slump of the year.
"There continues to be a surplus amount of oil in the global market which is expected to keep prices of both oil and gasoline on the low end through the rest of this year," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group.
"Gas prices did not fall as fast last week as they have in recent weeks, but that is to be expected because we are still in the middle of the peak driving season. Gas prices should fall even faster in the fall when school is back in session."
But there was a hitch in the drop last week for the southeast.
Prices actually went up half a cent on Friday because of a refinery outage in the mid-west, so fuel from our region is being diverted.
"The refinery outage could last a couple weeks, but is not expected to have a dramatic affect on prices in the southeast."
Average prices in Tennessee ended the week on Sunday at $2.297.
GasBuddy.com reports the average price in Chattanooga is $2.15 now, but you can find prices hovering around the $2 mark.
We now have a dozen stations posting $1.99 prices in Cleveland & Ooletwah.
