How Will Gas Prices Shape Your Holiday Shopping?

Chattanooga (WDEF) – Gas prices are headed back down again after a bumpy October.

The national average price dropped two cents last week according to AAA, and that held in both Tennessee and Georgia.

So the question now is how low will they go by Christmas.

“Prices should remain low through the holiday season,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “The national average could dip well below $2 a gallon by Christmas as long as oil prices remain low and there are no interruptions in gasoline supply.”

Gas prices almost always fall in November and December.

“It is unclear exactly how low gas prices will go this year, but motorists should expect these low gas prices to hang around through the rest of the year and into February, when another round of refinery maintenance typically causes prices to climb,” Jenkins said.

GasBuddy.com reports that prices have fallen 2.8 cents per gallon in Chattanooga over the last week.

The average price in their survey here was $1.84 on Sunday.

The lowest prices in our area are again at the foot of Signal Mountain.

The BP, Shell, Raceway, Murphy USA and Midnight Oil all on Signal Mtn. Boulevard have posted a $1.69 price.

North Georgia prices are also coming down now.

We saw several $1.82 prices in Ft. Oglethorpe and Dalton in the Gas Buddy list.
