Hurd exits congressional bid to focus to State House Race

WHITEFIELD COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — As candidates line up in hopes of challenging U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s seat, one local contender says he is stepping out of the congressional race.

Republican candidate Christian Hurd announced he will no longer pursue the congressional bid, saying he does not want to run against fellow Republicans without what he believes is a realistic path to victory.

Hurd argues that splitting the GOP vote could hand Democrats what he calls “a sure win.”

“I don’t have the cash to make it happen, and I don’t have the base I need to make this happen,” Hurd said. “So what I’m going to do is take my ego and my desires, put them to the side, and understand that we have to consolidate the Republican voting block.”

Hurd now says he plans to shift his focus to a different race and will instead run against Steve Tarvin for Georgia House District 2.
