Ider, Alabama man arrested for making explosives

IDER, Alabama (WDEF) – A call from an Alabama man saying his wife was threatening to hurt herself ends with the man being arrested for making explosives.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris says deputies went to the home on County Road 803 in Ider, and found that the wife was okay.

She told deputies her husband, 43-year old Russell Neal Godwin, was manufacturing explosives inside the residence.8 26 16 Explosives pic 2

Deputies contacted the State Fire Marshal, ATF, Ider Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.

They found a large amount of chemicals, finished explosives and found 5 or 6 devices that had been set off in the yard.

Godwin was transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center where he remains with a $45,000 bond.

This case remains open with additional charges pending.
