Immigrant Population of North Georgia Welcome Obama’s Reforms

DALTON, GA,(WDEF)-Citizenship or even permanent US residency with a Green Card is the dream for millions in the developing world.

It’s a dream that came true for Aralaberto who came to the US 17 years ago, went to college, opened a business and started a family.

Aralberto Montelongo,AMP Dish Services,"There is a lot of Hispanic people right now in the US that I think can help the economy of the US, I think what Obama is doing right is a good thing for the country and a good opportunity."

Aralberto feels more dialogue between the Latino community and lawmakers is what’s needed to create immigration reform that helps both sides.

 Guatemalan immigrant Raul lived in LA before settling in North Georgia and says immigrants will continue come to the US if they can’t get jobs at home.

Raul Zamora-Deleon,"The border is not the problem the problem is the presidents of the other, of Guatemala, Central America that’s the problem, too much people poor."

Some Georgia residents feel President Obama needs to take more time on legislation that could impact more than 50 million people.

John Prater,North Georgia Resident,"Wait until the 1st of the year when a new senate is sworn in and i would work with both the house and senate to try and pass a bill the American people want."

Forbes estimates  20 percent of small businesses are immigrant-owned,  contributing nearly $800 billion to the U.S. Economy.
