Incline Railway repair to take months
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- CARTA has provided an update on the reconstruction updates to the Incline Railway.
It was heavily damaged in a wildfire on the side of Lookout Mountain earlier this month.
CARTA CEO Charles Frazier says over a thousand feet of rail, two hundred rail ties, and over five thousand feet of cable will have to be replaced.
He says it is going to be a long time before passengers can ride on the railway again.
“We don’t have the final time frame yet, but what we certainly know is that it’s going to be months, not weeks and so we’re going to keep you and the public very aware of our efforts. I would just say it’s suffice to say that we are working diligently to bring the system back online safely and as quickly as possible” said Frazier.
CARTA says that their insurance company is covering the cost of repairs and lost revenue related to the disaster.
