Ironman Competition Will Disturb Weekend Routine in the Tennessee Valley

Chattanooga (WDEF) – Ironman 70.3 hits Chattanooga this weekend.

Competitors will hit Downtown streets, the Tennessee River and several highways outside of town.

So get ready for some detours.

On Saturday, we get a kid’s race at 9 AM, and the Ironman Expo will be open at Ross’s landing all day.

The race begins early Sunday morning, and that’s where the real disruptions begin.

  • The Tennessee River will be closed to boat traffic from Ross’s Landing to the Dam from 5-10 AM.
  • Riverside Drive/Riverfront Parkway at the Aquarium, and the southbound Veterans Bridge ramp to Riverside Drive will be closed from Thursday through Monday morning
  • Police officers will stop traffic for cyclists from 7:30AM – 2PM down Broad, Market, Alton Park Boulevard, St. Elmo into North Georgia.  The Georgia loop runs down Highway 193 in Chattanooga Valley to Pigeon Cove, back to Chickamauga and reconnecting on Hwy 136
  • Police officers will stop traffic for runners between 9AM-5PM on the Riverwalk, Amnicola Hwy, Veterans Bridge, Barton Ave/Riverview/Hixson Pike.
