January 6th suspect now charged with conspiracy to kill FBI investigating him

Edward Kelley from Maryville was charged with assaulting an officer during capital takeover

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – A man waiting for trial over his role in the January 6th demonstration now faces even more serious charges.

Edward Kelley of Maryville was charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer during the march on the capital.

His next hearing has been pushed to January.

But now federal prosecutors have charged him and Austin Carter of Knoxville with making plans to kill federal agents who investigated Kelley.

Prosecutors say he obtained a list of FBI agents investigating his case.

They say he and Carter discussed killing everyone on the list plus attacking the FBI field office in Knoxville.

“Federal law enforcement agents put their lives on the line every day to protect the public,” said United States Attorney Francis M. Hamilton III.

“Planning and threatening violence against them is among the most serious of crimes. It is absolutely unacceptable and will be vigorously investigated and prosecuted,” said United States Attorney Francis M. Hamilton III.
