Jax Abernathy a Scoring Machine For Christian Heritage
Dalton, GA-(WDEF-TV) If you’re going to beat Christian Heritage this season, you have to find a way to slow down guard Jax Abernathy. Good luck. Abernathy has turned into a scoring machine for the Lions.
When Jax Abernathy prepares to take the floor, opponents are sometimes like, is this the dude averaging 25 points a game?
Said Abernathy: “They’ll be like this dude looks like a tennis player or something. Why is he out here scoring 30?”
Said head coach Tyler Watkins: “He’s a scoring guard. He has done that since he has been here.”
Talk about scoring. Earlier this year against Hamilton Heights, Abernathy threw down 53 points.
Said Watkins: “It was unbelievable. I think he had 53, and he only missed about four shots. Just played unbelievable really. We needed everyone of those 53.”
Said Abernathy: “I started hitting shots. They just kept giving it to me. I kept shooting it, and it went in.”
Abernathy has worked to see more of his shots go in as a sophomore.
Said Abernathy: “I think shooting off the dribble whether that be mid-range or three. I think I’ve been able to make it more consistently on that.”
Said Watkins: “He’s very comfortable in the post, which is abnormal for a lot of guards. He just sits down in there, and he can work in the post ro he can come outside. It’s easy for me to draw some things up for him.”
And coach never hesitates to draw up crunch time shots for Abernathy.
Said Watkins: “Well I just think he’s cool, calm, and collected. He never gets rattled. Never changes his facial expression. He just plays the game.”
Said Abernathy: “I mean I now I’m the go-to guy, but I think. I don’t have a problem with it.”
