Julie Jacks Remembered

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police remember one of their own who died in the line of duty 13 years ago today.

26 year old Officer Julie Jacks was shot and killed while working her beat near Parkridge Hospital.

Jacks was in the area assisting in locating a man who had fled from a mental facility.

When Jacks located him, the suspect took her service weapon and shot her.

"We’d like everybody’s thoughts to be with the survivors of Julie Jacks," said Fred Fletcher, Chattanooga Chief of Police. "She was known as a gracious, brave and charitable person. This is a very tough time and we remember her fondly and warmly."

Jacks was known as a bright and dedicated cop.

She was Rookie of the year 2001.
