Jury convicts Gasden Dad who says God told him to kill his baby girl
GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) – A jury has found an east Alabama man guilty of capital murder in the death of his 20-month-old daughter.
The Gadsden Times reports that jurors deliberated Stephon Lindsay’s fate for less than two hours Tuesday before reaching the decision.
During the trial, jurors heard Lindsay say on video that his so-called God, “Yahweh,” instructed him to kill his daughter Maliyah.
He told police cut daughter’s throat in a downstairs room of his apartment while the child’s mother was asleep upstairs.
Investigators have said in a warrant that the girl was partially decapitated with a small hatchet.
Gadsden police found the child’s body in a wooded area on March 12, 2013.
Lindsay had pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
