Kimia Carter Turns Into a Scoring Machine For Brainerd

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) It seems Brainerd high school guard Kimia Carter is doing a James Harden impression this season.
The Panthers senior is averaging a Harden like 31-points a game heading into district tournament play this week.

Kimia Carter has achieved a lot during her high school career, but being named one of the three finalists for the state’s Miss basketball award really got to her.
Carter:”And like tears started running down because I never thought my name could be in that little box with the three names. It was very exciting.”
Reporter:”How do you average 30 points a game?”
Said Carter:”That’s pretty difficult, but it’s easy when you have teammates who look for you and know that you can do it.”
Said head coach Stanley Jackson:”Like she has shot the ball in the places on the floor here where most coaches would tell kids no. They sit them real deep on the bench, but she tends to make those shots.”
Reporter:”What kind of reaction or response do you get from other coaches after they’ve played against her?”
Said Jackson:”Well yeah, the number one question is hey, what year is she? When does she graduate? When does she leave? Man she’s fire. Ah man that girl. Dude.”
Dude. Carter is a senior, and she’ll be playing college basketball next season at Stetson.”
Said Carter:”It was actually a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to be a division one athlete, and Stetson made that possible for me.”
Said Jackson:”I’m just happy that we were able to have her here and her parents trusted us to take care of her. Not just as an athlete, but a student-athlete because we deal with so many other negative things outside of Brainerd that’s being said.”
Carter may one day see her jersey retired in the rafters at Brainerd High School.
Said Carter:”I can remember when I was like seven or eight, my dad was the football coach here. I would come and say oh dad, my jersey is going to be up there. My last name is going to be up there.”
Said Jackson:”If she can get us past this district, we get this district championship and the region, maybe it will go up there this year. How bout that.” (chuckles)
