Lady Vols Rejoicing in Sweet 16 After Difficult Regular Season

It was a record setting year for the Lady Vols, but it was for all the records a team doesn’t want to set.
But now Tennessee seems to be persevering when it counts, the NCAA tournament.
The Lady Vols once again advanced to the Sweet 16.
Tennessee rolled into the Big Dance with their worst ever seeding and most losses in team history. And the players were aware of the negativity.
Said guard Diamon DeShields-“We may be considered one of the worst teams in Lady Vols history to some. You know some people are selling their tickets.”
Despite all of that, Tennessee is once again in the Sweet 16.
Reporter-“Do you feel vindicated at all being here in the Sweet 16 of the tournament?”
Said head coach Holly Warlick-“Hey look, I just wanted to focus in on this team. I had the privilege of seeing them play everyday. I understood where we could go, and we were just taking a little bit longer to get there.”
So why do the Lady Vols appear to be playing their best basketball right now?
Said Warlick-“At the beginning we were moving people in and out because of injuries. I thought that affected us. I think now we’ve got a good core right now, and we’ve got some really strong people coming off the bench.”
The Lady Vols will try to keep their season alive in of all places, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Reporter-“Holly, have you ever been to Sioux Falls before?”
Warlick-“Ummm. Close. I was in Nebraska for two years. It’s cold.”
Added DeShields-“I didn’t think that life would ever call me to South Dakota.”(laughter)
South Dakota is a fun place, when you’re still in the Big Dance.
Said guard Jordan Reynolds-“At first we got that sense of ughhh, we’ve got practice. And then we thought, oh we’ve got practice! We still get to practice! We’re still in this thing.”
Added DeShields-“We still have our eyes set on a national championship and the Final Four. So in order to do that, we have to continue to play the way we’ve been playing, which is with a chip on our shoulders.”
Tennessee will tip against Ohio State in the Sweet 16 on Friday at 9:30pm. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
