The Governor also announced that his executive order that would require law enforcement to share any criminal activity to a database within 72 hours and have courts submit that information to the TBI.

He says this is to strengthen background checks as he wants the TBI to examine the current efficiency of the background check process.

Gov. Lee said, “For me, what is most important that’s happening is that we recognize that this is an emotionally charged environment as a result of what happened two weeks ago. My focus is to stay focused on a solution for what happened, and that’s what today is about. There are issues all around us, but now is the time to set the time to set those issues to the side.”

Governor Lee said he would like to see the General Assembly get back to work and pass his proposed legislation by the end of their current session.

This follows the school safety bill that was passed in the General Assembly by a vote of 94-5.
