Lightning strike sparks house fire in Hamilton County

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Signal Mountain Fire Department responded to reports of a possible house fire at 7 Rock Crest Drive.

Severe thunderstorms swept through Hamilton County this morning, bringing intense lightning.

At 10:56 a.m., the Signal Mountain Fire Department responded to reports of a possible house fire at 7 Rock Crest Drive.

Upon arrival, the first engine confirmed the home was on fire.

Signal Mountain Fire immediately requested mutual aid for additional manpower.

Walden’s Ridge Emergency Service responded to assist, while the Chattanooga Fire Department and Red Bank Fire Department handled other emergency calls in their respective districts.

Signal Mountain Fire Chief Larry Sloan confirmed the fire was caused by a lightning strike.

No injuries were reported, though Hamilton County EMS remained on the scene as a precaution for firefighters.

The homeowner was not present when the fire broke out.

Officials estimate the damage at approximately $200,000.
