Local Author Encourages Children to Reach for the Stars

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A local author held a special book signing on Wednesday.

Rita Lorainne Hubbard wrote “It’s Possible, The Story of Ronald McNair”.

Ronald McNair grew up poor in rural South Carolina.

He went on to become the second African American astronaut in US history.

The book is meant to inspire young readers to reach for the stars, no matter their circumstances.

Ms. Hubbard told us: “I love stories where people who did not have a lot of resources didn’t have a lot of money and faced a lot of challenges overcame those challenges, and I’d like to show the children that it doesn’t matter where you were born what’s your last name is doesn’t matter what your circumstances put your mind to it, educate yourself and you can overcome too.”

The book is available at the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center on Aquarium Way.
