WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF)- As many folks celebrated the New Year across the world, The New Year brought scare and concern to the City of New Orleans.

Fellow Georgians are reacting to the terrorist attack on Bourbon Street on New Year’s Day.

“I was, I was probably about four blocks, three to four blocks away from where it happened at the time, we didn’t, we did not know what had happened. We just knew something was going on because there was an over abundance of police,” said Jackie Mullins, Georgian.

According to the FBI, 42 year old, Sham Sud Jabbar drove his pickup truck through the heart of New Orleans.

The attack left more than 15 people dead and dozens more injured.

One of those injured is a student at the University of Georgia.

State representative Mike Cameron expressed his thoughts on the premeditated act of terrorism.

“For someone to do this evil thing and this was just pure evil. To do this to our people is just so wrong, and we need to stand united, regardless of politics, regardless. Anything else we need to stand united against this stuff, and we need to stop it,” said Cameron.

As a part of the attack, 2 police officers with the New Orleans Police Department also received injuries in the line of duty.

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson considers this attack as horrific.

“I commend them, officers and the many other officers all across the United States every day who don’t back down, but they run toward the problem to save lives and to protect property,” said Wilson.

The New Orleans Police said Jabbar was struck by Police and declared dead on the scene.

Cameron encourages Georgians and those in Louisiana to be careful during the New Year. ,

“if you are coming home from New Orleans. Be careful if you are at the ball game. And just be careful in your neighborhood and communities, at your community events, your churches, synagogues and other things. Just be careful. And just keep your head on swivel. Do not be afraid. But one thing is, do no’t let them scare you. Do not be afraid. Just keep your head on a swivel,” Cameron concluded.
