Local group explains plans for former Alstom plant, King Street project

CHATTANOOGA,Tenn. (WDEF)- A local group says they have high hopes for the Alstom Plant that they’ve recently acquired.

The west end property group has a lot of properties across Chattanooga.

While they build the King Street Station, they working to find someone to utilize the former Alstom plant and bring hundreds of jobs to our area.

Jimmy White, President of Urban Story Ventures says, “I didn’t think we were a player for it but, you know, the sellers believed in the legacy. They wanted to leave it in local hands.”

The Alstom plant said to have cost builders somewhere between 300 million and half a billion dollars.

“A facility of this size and scope is going to be great for the community. I think just the building were standing in right here will have several hundred employees,” says White.

He says they are going to go after the fortune 500 companies, who may be interested in the scenic city, potentially, the “next Volkswagen.”

They plan to keep the Alstom manufacturing area available for use for what it was specially made for.

White believes, “You can go anywhere in the southeast where you won’t see [a property] with this much potential. You have access to the these big beautiful industrial buildings. This is probably the nicest facility in the country.”

On the Southside, they are building up King Street Station… that will include 2 restaurants, a brewery, condos, a hotel and more.

“It’s going to be a live work and play say but it’s a connecting piece. It connects the UTC’s campus. It’s two blocks from UTC’s campus. You are right in the heart of the south side where all the activities and you’ve got on-site parking,” says White.

Jimmy White’s group says they are building these areas up to bring more jobs for generations to come.

“Chattanooga is a great spot. It’s our backyard number one. I am a Chattanooga native, my partner is a Chattanooga native. This is a great community it’s growing”

According to Mr. White, the land where the Alstom plant’s office space stands is the new “West End.”

You might not be able to see it now, but he says his group is full of a lot of optimism and we’ll just have to wait to see.
