Local High School Graduate brings home world championship title in weightlifting

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn (WDEF) – A local Notre Dame graduate is getting international attention after an unbelievable powerhouse performance in a world competition.

18 year old Olivia Reeves just came back from the World Weightlifting Championships in Uzbekistan.

Reeves got silver in the snatch and took home the gold in jerk and clean and got gold overall.

Reeves has been training in weightlifting for the past 6 years and she’s got her eyes set on competing in the 2024 Olympics.

“I love the sport. It’s a lot of fun to enjoy what I do and be pretty good at it too,” says Olivia Reeves, World Champion.

“When she started off she was just like any other little girl with the 15 pound aluminum bar that we trained on and now she’s doing what she’s doing. It’s a testament to her hard work and passion for the sport,” says Steve Fauer, Olivia’s Coach

Reeves snatch was about 225 pounds and her clean and jerk weighed 280 pounds , now that’s some serious girl power.
