Local Woman Becomes United States Citizen

CHATTANOOGA, Tn- Crossville woman finally fulfilled her life-long dream after many years of hard work.

91 year old Merrilee Hyde recently passed her test to become a U-S citizen.

She has been living in Crossville since 1965.

Merrilee is originally from Roatan Honduras and came to the United States to become a caretaker.

She says the unfairness of working is what motivated her to finally become a U-S citizen.

“Well I always wanted to be one” Merrilee said,”but I was always working and couldn’t get off of work most of the time, you know. They just wouldn’t let me get off to.. go to see about it.”

Merrilee hopes more migrants will follow in her footsteps by going through the process of becoming a U-S citizen.
