Local Woman Needs Help: Emergency Vehicles Can’t get to her Home

Soddy Daisy, TN (WDEF) – Local resident Kathey Powell says something has to change, after the 2.2 mile road leading to her home in Sequatchie County has nearly become un-drivable.

"When I bought the land 15 years ago, it was maintained and then after that it just went downhill," said Powell. The gravel road is littered with pot holes and mud holes that can cause serious damage to any vehicle that doesn’t have four-wheel drive.

But that’s not the worst part. Powell says emergency vehicles can’t get down the road, even if there was a crisis situation, "They will not attempt this road with their own vehicles. My brother needed an ambulance twice so I’ve had to literally try to drag him to my car to get him out here."

Powell says she’s on a fixed income, and can’t afford to fix the road, which is why she reached out to the city for help but they told her she would have to pay to fix it herself.

Powell suffers from several health issues and fears one day no one will be able to reach her in a life or death situation, "Please help. That’s all I ask. I’ve needed an ambulance twice this year, they won’t come back there, they’ll come right here."

News 12 reached out to the property manager who owned the land before Powell. He estimated the road could cost anywhere from $3,000 to $6,000 to get it fixed.
