Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam’s plan for road construction involves 2-billion dollars for 94 projects around the state over the next three years.
Haslam been making a case for increasing the state’s gas tax for the first time since 1989 as a way to help cover a $6 billion backlog in transportation project funding.
He has agreed to direct an additional 142-million dollars to road funding this year.

Republican leaders in Georgia say they will not push for a special session to override Gov. Nathan Deal’s veto of a bill shielding gay marriage opponents.
Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle says in a statement that getting enough votes “would not be achievable.”
Deal said Georgia shouldn’t permit discrimination to protect religious belief.
Big-name companies mobilized against the bill.
Some threatened to boycott if it became law.

Nearly 100 local professionals and elders are expected to gather today to learn about issues facing Chattanooga’s aging demographic.
An Elder Justice Interdisciplinary team was recently established in Chattanooga as a part of a local initiative with the Family Justice Center.
Organizers say today’s Aging Forum, themed “It Takes a Village”, will showcase the growing need for multi-faceted resources to assist and inspire seniors, caregivers, and professionals in the field of geriatrics.
The event takes place at Concord Baptist Church from 8:30AM-3:30PM.
