Looking Ahead to March 10, 2016

The Hamilton County School Board will meet today for a work session.
Board members will discuss the 2016-2017 budget, possible zoning changes and review of the agenda for the quarterly session of March 17, 2016.
This will be the first work session since members voted not to accept Superintendent Rick Smith’s buyout deal.
The 5 to 4 vote came in the wake of  the Ooltewah High basketball team rape scandal.

A perennial proposal to get rid of Tennessee’s requirement to obtain state-issued permit to carry handguns in public has failed in a Senate committee.
The bill  failed on a 4-4 vote Tuesday.
Supporters of yearly efforts to loosen handgun carry laws in Tennessee have long argued that permit holders’ background checks and training ensure that they are responsible enough to be armed in most public situations.
Concerns over getting rid of those safeguards help lead to the defeat of the bill.

Chattanooga Goodwill Industries will open its 17th retail outlet in its 23-county service area today.
The store is located in the K Mart Shopping Plaza at the corner of Battlefield Parkway and Lafayette Road in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA.
Grand Opening and ribbon-cutting ceremonies with the Catoosa County Chamber of Commerce take place at 9 this morning.
