Lookout Mountain Hang Gliding offers One of a kind experience to see Fall Foliage
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn (WDEF) – The pandemic has taught us a lot about health and safety but it’s also taught us a lot about how quickly life can change. Since life has slowly begun to return to normal, experts say more people are trying something new.
So that’s exactly what News 12 did- by taking a ride with a Lookout Mountain Hang Glider.
“Hang gliding is an amazing way to access the sky. It’s an entirely other environments that we weren’t meant to live in. It’s just like the ocean and we have the ability with scuba gear to go diving into the ocean. So with our hang gliders we can go diving into the sky and see the world from an awesome perspective with a birds-eye view,” says Adam Smith, Lookout Mountain Hang Glider.
When the covid-19 pandemic hit, residents were told to stay inside and rely on the safety of their homes to protect them from the unknown.
But now as we’ve learned to live amidst the virus and life is returning to a new normal -many are leaving their homes, and doing more outside— with a new perspective on life. Hang gliding is a unique way to witness the splendor of the area– like YOU NEVER HAVE BEFORE.
“On a typical year we will do over 4,000 tandems here at lookout mountain park. Last year with the worst part of covid we barely did over 2,000 tandems flights. We’re very close to 4,000 again. We are seeing it going back to normal again. I think the pandemic was a wake-up call for a lot of people that life can be fleeting. You only have one chance to do all of the stuff that you really want to do so you just have to get out there and do it now,” says Smith.
The instructors encourage riders to strap in, hold on, and take a leap of faith into the allure and majesty that only Tennessee and north Georgia have to offer.
“Here at Lookout mountain the mountain is completely covered in trees. It’s the very beginning of the fall foliage swing. In the next couple of weeks, we are going to see fantastic colors changing on the side of the mountain. Not every year is the same but because we have had so much rain this year and the colors are changing late I think this year is going to be a really awesome year to see the fall colors,” says Smith.
The flight was a smooth and peaceful reminder of why our area is a must-visit location.
