Lookout Mountain wildfire now estimated at 706 acres

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — The Georgia Forestry Commission has provided updated information on the Lookout Mountain wildfires.

They now say there are about 706 acres impacted by the fire, which they recently declared an arson. Forester Gabe Outlaw said the original claim that the wildfire was 1,400 acres was an overestimate.

In addition, the Forestry says they have 90% containment on the fire.

Authorities are still looking for the person responsible for setting the fire. If you have information, call 1-800-478-7337.

Anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest and conviction will receive a reward up to $10,000.

The fire began on October 21, 2023, according to Forestry officials.

Flames escaped the original containment line on November 2.

The fire is slow moving, according to the Forestry. They say there are also large amounts of unburned fuel inside the containment area.

The Forestry says they will continue to work the fire until there is no more smoke or smoldering.
