Lookouts Hope to Stay Red Hot to Finish First Half of the Season
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Even though the Lookouts have lost four straight, they’re still tied with Biloxi for the best record in the Southern League. Chattanooga is 15-6 in the month of May, but it will take some work to keep playing at that clip.
The Lookouts have been cooking this month, but now they’ll have to maintain that sizzle without a pair of .300 hitters.
Said manager Tommy Watkins:”Lamonte Wade made a catch and ran into the wall. Had to go on the DL this last road trip. We lost Nick Gordon last game to Triple-A.”
Said outfielder James Ramsey:”The next man up mentality. Minnesota is preaching it right now. Rochester has had a lot of moves as well, so I think that’s just something you come in and contribute. You do the best you can while you are here, and then leave it a better place when you leave.”
Outfielder James Ramsey and pitcher Anthony Marzi joined the team this month, and they like what they see.
Said Ramsey:”I think individually each guy kind of knows their role, and I think as a team obviously winning is contagious. The atmosphere. Just going about your business. You credit Tommy and the rest of the staff of setting the tone with that.”
Said Marzi:”Lot of swagger on the team. Lot of guys that know they belong here, and know they are going to continue up the level of the system.”
To rip off an impressive record in baseball, it starts with pitching.
Said Watkins:”Starters have been doing a really good job, and our bullpen guys have been doing good coming out of the pen too. Can’t overlook the position players as well. I think we moved up to second in the league in hitting.”
Chattanooga remains in first by a half game with just over three weeks left in the first half of the regular season.
Said Watkins:”I think it’s always good to try and clinch a spot in the first half. I think it takes a lot of pressure off the group, the staff, the players. Everybody. And you can get a chance to work on some things. Not so much worry about winning games. You still try to win, but you clinch a spot in the first half, it makes it a lot easier.”
