Lookouts Pitcher Alex Wimmers Fans Career High 11 in Win Over Jacksonville
Lookouts starting pitcher Alex Wimmers (W, 5-1) struck out a career-high 11 batters in seven shutout innings to lead the Lookouts (41-25) to a 3-2 win over the Jacksonville Suns (28-39).
From the first pitch Wimmers was on fire, recording two strikeouts in the first inning. The Lookouts offense gave their red hot pitcher some room to work with in the third. Niko Goodrum led off the inning with a walk and stole second base. The speedy outfielder then scored on a Levi Michael RBI single. The second run of the inning was plated when Michael was brought home on a Jorge Polanco base hit.
The team added one more in seventh inning on a RBI triple by Max Kepler. Kepler now has three triples over his last two games and his hitting a league leading .340.
In the eighth inning Madison Boer came in for Wimmers and recorded his first save of the year. Wimmers’ stellar outing earned him his fifth win of the season. The righty has only allowed eight hits over his last three starts and is riding a scoreless inning steak of 21.2. He also has 23 strikeouts over that span.
Tomorrow, Jose Berrios (7-3, 3.09) takes the bump for Chattanooga against Trevor Williams (3-7, 4.27) at 7:15 p.m.
