Lookouts to repurpose parts of Engel Stadium

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- We are hearing reaction to UTC’s plan to replace Engel Stadium with a women’s soccer stadium.

The stadium, built in 1930, has fallen into disrepair over the past several years.

The site is planned to be converted into that soccer stadium and the new Hamilton County Health Department building.

As the Lookouts prepare to move into their new home, they believe there are opportunities to honor their history at their former home by saving some section numbers and parts of the scoreboard from Engel.

The general manager of the Chattanooga Lookouts, Rich Morzingo, said, “The things that we are going to bring over are in just fine condition. We will have ample opportunities to use those things in our ballpark. The stadium is old. The stadium has been sitting empty for a long time. It’s not the shape that people remember it in. But the things we are going to bring over are going to work just fine for what we are going to do.”

There is not a clear timeline on when the redevelopment work could begin at Engel Stadium.
