Man apprehended after church standoff at funeral

ATLANTA (AP) – Police say a man who barricaded himself in an Atlanta church during a funeral for his grandfather has been apprehended.

Atlanta Police Department spokesman Lukasz Sajdak tells local news media that the man was apprehended without incident after a funeral for his 94-year-old grandfather on Saturday. Sajdak days the man was distraught and barricaded himself inside a bathroom at the Higher Ground Empowerment Center.

Police say the standoff lasted about three hours.

Pastor Dexter Johnson tells WSB-TV that the man was visibly upset. The pastor says the man got into an argument with someone at the funeral and that’s when police were called.

Streets around the church were temporarily closed while police were involved in the standoff.
